Company History
Established in 1919, Ideal Shoe Co Ltd has been manufacturing boots, shoes and sports footwear for almost ninety years. Family-owned and based in the Wellington suburb of Miramar for the duration of its existence, Ideal Shoe has provided the footwear for an impressive array of individuals, teams and organisations including:
  • Supplied rugby boots to the 1924 All Black 'Invincibles' and New Zealand sporting legends including Colin Meads and Fergie McCormack
  • Developed the John Reid Autograph brand high quality cricket boot
  • Produced most of the footwear used in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, River Queen, King Kong and Waterhorse
  • Manufactures a range of dress shoes for the New Zealand Armed Forces
  • Developed the 'Bobcat' range for The Warehouse
  • Produced a dress boot for the rugby Super 12 franchises, referees and rugby union officials
  • Manufactures a high quality, rugged sole, matte finish for the New Zealand Fire Service
  • Manufactures a high quality, cleated sole, matte finish, unisex shoe for schools
  • Supplied footwear to New Zealand Commonwealth Games gold medallist Dick Tayler
